A silent catastrophe is unfolding in Ethiopia on the backdrop of years of inter-communal conflict and the most prolonged and severe drought in recent years. ECW is committed to supporting crisis-impacted communities in Ethiopia and beyond to reach as many vulnerable children as funds will allow. In this regard, Director of the High-Level Financing Conference and Chief of Education Graham Lang spoke about ECW’s new strategic plan for 2023/2026, which starts in January through which ECW aims to reach 20 million children over the next four years.

News: Conflict, drought in Ethiopia forces 3.6 million children out of school, half a million in last six months alone: new report
A new report by the UN’s global fund for education in emergencies, Education Cannot Wait (ECW), revealed that conflict, climate change, malnutrition and displacement forced 3.6 million children out of school in Ethiopia in what it says is the world’s largest education crisis. The number rose from 3.1 million to 3.6 million in just the last six months alone.
To round off 2022, our December action is calling for the UK to pledge £170 million over three years to Education Cannot Wait, the only global fund for education in emergencies. We are doing our part for their global campaign '222 million dreams' - reflecting the number of children affected by crises who are in need of education or educational support.
