Kinshasa, Nov 1 2022 (IPS) - The Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Yasmine Sherif, launched a strong call for public and private donors to step up funding, asking them to “show the same courage” she saw in the children she met during her week-long visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Director of Education Yasmine Sherif can’t wait (ECW) says she is “deeply moved” by the resilience of the children she met during her week-long trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where more than 3 million children between the ages of 6 and 11 are out of school. 

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) has announced an additional U.S.$2 million in new funding for the provision of educational support to refugees and host communities in the Nord Ubangi province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kinshasa, 28 octobre 2022 (ACP).- La Directrice de l’Organisation « Education Cannot Wait (ECW) », Yasmine Sherif et le représentant de l’UNICEF en RDC, Grant Leaity ont plaidé jeudi auprès des donateurs du monde entier pour dégager un fonds supplémentaire en vue de soutenir les enfants touchés par les différentes  crises en République démocratique du Congo (RDC), indique  un document du PNUD parvenu vendredi à l’ACP.

28 October 2022, Kinshasa/New York – Education Cannot Wait (ECW) announced today US$2 million in new funding to provide life-saving educational support for refugees and host-community children and adolescents in the Nord Ubangi province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the United Nations (UN) global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and partners have canvassed for substantial increase in funding for crisis-affected children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

ECW-supported joint programme with UNICEF in the Kalemie area of Tanganyika province offers a compelling model for increasing access to education – especially for girls – by eradicating gender-based violence and building a secure post-conflict future.

La directrice de la Coopération Britannique Laura Mazal, a alerté que plus de 60% des enfants de la province du Tanganyika n’ont pas accès à l’éducation.

Sur ce, « Éducation Sans Délai », a mis en place un projet ayant pour objectif d’offrir une éducation de qualité pour qu’ils puissent reconstruire leur futur.

In Afar, UNHCR and partner Edukans organized a workshop on 20 October, to launch the Education Cannot Wait program for refugees and host communities. The aim is to improve learning through equitable, access to quality, safe, gender sensitive and protective education for emergency affected girls, boys and children with disabilities living in camps and host communities.

In a report released by the Ministry of Education and Science in Ukraine, 2677 educational institutions have been damaged by bombing and shelling, with 331 of them are completely destroyed as of October 21, 2022.
