Ukraine and Afghanistan have rightfully been some of the most prominent global headlines in the last year. But the horrifying truth is that there are countless emergencies felt on every continent—with children disproportionally at risk. Whether caused by conflict or natural disasters, the impact is far reaching and long lasting. Particularly on a child’s education.

Education in Emergencies is also one of the most chronically underfunded aspect of humanitarian aid, receiving just 3% of annual budgets, and yet plays such a significant role in a person’s life. In addition to learning, schools can be a safe space for children to play and receive specialised support services, receive maybe their only meal of the day, and are places where they are even offered medical assistance. But increasingly, education is coming under attack – quite literally through violent attacks, and figuratively with crumbling education resources.
