Street Child has been appointed by ECW’s international civil society constituency as their representative on ECW’s governance. Street Child’s tenure will be for two years and run until the end of 2025.

As a global multilateral fund, ECW brings together a wide range of partners – including public and private donors, governments, UN agencies, civil society, locally-led organizations and other key stakeholders.

“Civil society is a powerful driving force propelling ECW’s joint efforts to deliver quality education to children and adolescents in crisis settings. As the newly appointed representative for international civil society organisations on our governance, Street Child’s leadership will be crucial in stepping up advocacy for education financing during these challenging times. Street Child will be instrumental in leading our coordinated work with civil society across the globe to fulfill the right to education for all,” said Yasmine Sherif, Executive Director of Education Cannot Wait.

Street Child’s CEO & Founder Tom Dannatt will represent the sector on ECW’s High Level Steering Group, which provides strategic guidance to the Fund. Convened at the ministerial level, the High-Level Steering Group is comprised of partner organizations – including heads of UN agencies and multilateral aid agencies, CEOs of civil society organizations and foundations, and private sector representatives. Tyler Arnot, Street Child Director of Global Programmes, will represent the sector on ECW’s Executive Committee, which oversees ECW’s operations.

“We are excited to use our expertise in education in emergencies to build greater support for the 222 million children affected by crises, like conflict and climate-induced disasters, globally,” says Dannatt. “As with everything we do, we will continue to advocate for the voices of local organisations and to better localise education in emergency responses. We are grateful for the recognition and trust put into Street Child to represent our colleague organisations, and we look forward to working with ECW and our peer networks.”

ECW strives to create greater shared political, operational and financial commitments to meet the educational needs of millions of children and youth affected by crises around the world, with a focus on more agile, connected and faster responses. ECW’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plans seeks to mobilize a total of US$1.5 billion to reach 20 million crisis-impacted children and adolescents.

Street Child, as one of the world’s fastest growing children’s charities, brings an intense focus on local action to ECW governance. Street Child will support ECW in delivering effective immediate responses for children while also building sustainable local capabilities for long-term results.

This appointment is a testament to Street Child’s impressive work as a leader in the sector. Street Child works with over 200 local organizations in over 22 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe to fight for every child’s right to a safe and quality education.
