With the drought situation continuing to deteriorate, UNICEF Kenya has revised its drought emergency response plan due to the increase in the people in need and in line with the revision of the Kenya Inter-Agency Drought Flash Appeal 2022. The soft funding pipeline funding is approximately USD 13 million mainly from USAID/BHA, ECHO EDF, Canadian Government (CIDA), Education Cannot Wait ECW, Australian Natcom - Horn of Africa Drought, Ireland Drought Flash Appeal, Germany AA flexible humanitarian funding and FCDO for various UNICEF sectors delivering critical lifesaving interventions.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the UN’s global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises, will host a High-Level Financing Conference from February 16-17, 2023 in Geneva. With a pledge of at least $158 million over four years, the U.S. Government can commit to financing quality, inclusive, and transformative education for over 222 million children and adolescents living in crisis and conflict settings around the world.

The Minister is visiting the UN Global Fund for education in emergencies and protracted in crises (Education Cannot Wait (ECW)) projects in Somali and Oromia regions.

En el evento participaron 35 niños, niñas y adolescentes provenientes de zonas residenciales del noroeste y sur de Guayaquil. Son seis comunidades donde están ubicados los Puntos de Apoyo con los que el Comité de Derechos Humanos (CDH) desarrolla el proyecto La Educación es el Camino, que lideran la Unesco, Acnur y Unicef, con el financiamiento de Education Cannot Wait-ECW.

We’ve recently heard strong support from governments, including the UK, for the transformative power of education in emergencies and the urgent need to catalyze action and funding to make those #222MillionDreams a reality. The upcoming replenishment in February 2023, of Education Cannot Wait, the global fund for education in emergencies, is a test of that commitment.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) works together with governments, UN agencies, civil society and the private sector for an inclusive world where all children with disabilities are able to go to school in safe and accessible learning environments.
