This Call to Action – endorsed by Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Finn Church Aid (FCA), Humanity & Inclusion, the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Oxfam, Plan International, Save the Children, Street Child, SOS Children’s Villages, the Lutheran World Federation, UNESCO, War Child, and Windle Trust International – highlights the vital role of teachers in crisis contexts across Eastern and Southern Africa and urges governments and partners to protect, support, and invest in them.

Aligned with the Santiago Consensus, it calls for stronger teacher training, fair pay, improved safety, enhanced well-being measures, and meaningful participation in policy. Amid shrinking education budgets and growing risks, it affirms that teachers are essential to resilience and peace.
